Salzburg

After Innsbruck, we kept on driving to Salzburg.  We met up with some friends and spent a few days together walking around Salzburg.

We spent a lot of time in the Mirabell Gardens. The Gardens seemed to be the main walk through to the various sights we saw. The Gardens are filled with beautiful flowers, numerous fountains and marble creatures. Many scenes from "The Sound of Music" were filmed here.

Throwing a penny in the fountain.

Dinner at the pizzeria with our friends.

The Salzach River that divides the "old" and "new" town of Salzburg.

View of the Hohensax castle at night.

The house Mozart grew up in.

The Nature Museum - We saw fish, dinosaurs, crystals, reptiles and various other things. One of the best kids museums I have ever been.

Farmers market.

Old town.

Put a lock on the Lovelocks bridge.

Lukas threw the key into the river.

St. Peter's Abbey and Salzburg Cathedral.

St. Peter's Cemetery was very original, situated on the side of a hill. So much rod iron and all the grave sights were decorated beautifully with flowers.

This water wheel provided the energy to bake fresh bread daily for the church.

We ate dinner and listened to a concert on the Mozart platz in front of the Dom Cathedral.

Hiked up to the Hohensalzburg. It is a huge fortress that over looks the city of Salzburg.

Boom!

The heater.

Burg Museum.

The kitchen.

Rode the funicular down.

I was looking forward to eating Mexican food ( a rare occasion in Europe) after our hike down from the castle. And of course, it was nothing like we were anticipating.

Last stop on the way out of town, The Von Trapp's house- one of the two they used for the movie.

Now, I need to watch "The Sound of Music." As always, another fun family vacation.
