Rome

This post is a little old. My mom and I got to spend a few days in Rome by ourselves after Christmas. It had been over 15 years since my mom and I had vacationed together. It was so enjoyable, what a sight to see. Each day we walked around town for at least eight hours.  We had three days to see it all and I think we did a good job.  Here are most of the places we visited. We also ate some yummy food and did some shopping at the markets.

The Trajan Markets, thought to be the world's oldest shopping mall.
The Roman Forum - Temple of Castor and Pollux, the twin sons of Zeus.

Statues at the house of the Vestal Virgins.
The Arch of Septimius Severus in the Roman Forum.
The Victor Emanuel II Monument, the first king of unified Italy.

The Arch of Constantine.

The Colloseum.

Palatine Hill.
The Stadium on Palatine Hill.

A hand and foot sculpture and a chariot in the Capitoline Museums.

Pantheon.  A temple built for all God's over two thousand years ago and is still the world's largest unreinforced concrete dome.

Inside the Pantheon.
Our walk to the Vatican.
A Swiss Guard protecting the Pope.
Went to see the Pope.

The deceased Popes that line the Vatican.

Inside St. Peter's Basilica at the Vatican.
The Sistine Chapel painted by Michelangelo in the early 1500's.
Michelangelo's self portrait.

The ceiling of the Sisten Chapel, nine scenes from the Book of Genisus.
The hand of God giving life to Adam.

Famous spiral staircase inside the Vatican museum.
Trevi Fountain.
Threw in a penny for good luck. I sure do look like a tourist, back pack and camera. :)
Spanish Steps.

 Zeus.

Eating dinner outside at a trattoria down the street from our hotel.

Gelato - my nightly craving. Berry yogurt was my favorite.

Hotel Nazionale  - Great hotel with a perfect location in Piazza Navona.
