Berner Oberland- Day One

Headed down south to the Bernese Oberland to see the amazing mountains and waterfalls and hike.
First stop was Brienz to catch a boat to Geissbach.

The scenery was just gorgeous.

Th picture makes it look small, but you could watch the boats motor turn inside.

First view of the Geissbach falls.

Bye bye boat.

Up the funicular to the falls. This is supposedly one of the worlds oldest funicular, dating back to the late 1800's.

The start of our hike up the falls.

There are 14 steps the falls tumble down. Each step is named after a Bernese hero. We only saw about half of them as the falls reach about 1500 feet.

Do you see the boys?

Behind the falls looking down at the Geissbach hotel and Brienzersee.

It was very rocky and steep in parts. A zig zag trail up.

Lukas scaling the rocks like a mountain goat.

Throwing rocks into the falls.

Walked back down to enjoy a little playtime at the park.

And of course eat popsicles.

A few pics from the hike down to the boat. We chose not to take the funicular back down.

Dumping into the Brienzersee.

Here she comes, our at least we thought this was our boat.

Boat ride to Oberried- oops we are not supposed to be going here!

Looking for fishies.

So we hopped the train back to Brienz.

The boys loved being on the train.

After Brienz we checked in to our hotel in Interlaken then took a short drive to Lauterbrunnen. Lauterbrunnen is a small but popular resort town that sits below the Eiger, Monch and Jungfrau peaks. We drove through town then spotted this waterfall and what looked like a cave you could walk up to.

Super cool hike up and through the mountain. Yes, you had to hold on or you would be going down with the water.

We made it.

Playing in the spring.

This cemetery had beautiful flowers on each grave.

Town of Lauterbrunnen.

Schnitzel, pizza and gemischter salad, our typical Swiss dinner.

Best shot I could get of the Eiger, Monch and Jungfrau.
