Trubliweg

Went on a hike through the vineyards behind our house this morning. It is always wonderful to share the beauty of our valley with friends.
Allegra, Sonia, Mathieu and Logan

Yummy peanut butter and jelly with homemade strawberry, cherry and red currant jam from our local berries.

Interesting long horned and hairy cows (maybe some buffalo and goat in the mix).

It's a....

GIRL!
Third time is a charm. We were completely shocked. We had my doctor check three times to confirm. We are all so excited, also curious as to what it will be like to add a little girl in to the mix.

Her little foot.

Had a party with some girlfriends to reveal the sex. I had them wear pink or blue depending on their guess. Most were hoping for a girl, but were taking by surprise when we cut the cake. What a fun day!

This is going to be fun!

A Walk Through Our Valley

The weather has been gorgeous! Sunny, 60 + degrees. We love it, and have almost forgotten about the extreme cold we had this winter. We haven't wasted a minute of the sunshine. Sometimes I forget we just have to walk out our door to experience our wonderful surroundings in the Rhine Valley.
Here are the boys and I out for a walk.

Granddaddy

After almost 90 years of living his life to the fullest, Granddaddy joined the love of his life in Heaven yesterday.

His first (of 4) great grandchild, Lukas. I look forward to sharing with my boys the countless stories of hockey and his passion for the game.

Something he taught me - You thrive by surrounding yourself with people and things which make you happy and smile.  "Keep smiling"

I had already decided to make spaghetti and meatballs for dinner before I got the unexpected news of Granddaddy. Ironically this is his number 1, all time favorite meal by far. Cheers to you Granddaddy! We love and miss you.

Logan's First Haircut

I love those long scraggly curls. It made Logan's vibrant nature give off a look of pure cuteness. But his baby hairs were definitely out growing his big boy hair. So we flipped on Little Einsteins (his fave) and I started chopping.

I was so nervous about the outcome. This is because sitting still sounds nothing like this child and it was Sunday which means there is no place open for a quick fix. Surprisingly all went well. I think it looks good for the first try. Although a little more grown up then I had hoped for.

Rome

This post is a little old. My mom and I got to spend a few days in Rome by ourselves after Christmas. It had been over 15 years since my mom and I had vacationed together. It was so enjoyable, what a sight to see. Each day we walked around town for at least eight hours.  We had three days to see it all and I think we did a good job.  Here are most of the places we visited. We also ate some yummy food and did some shopping at the markets.

The Trajan Markets, thought to be the world's oldest shopping mall.
The Roman Forum - Temple of Castor and Pollux, the twin sons of Zeus.

Statues at the house of the Vestal Virgins.
The Arch of Septimius Severus in the Roman Forum.
The Victor Emanuel II Monument, the first king of unified Italy.

The Arch of Constantine.

The Colloseum.

Palatine Hill.
The Stadium on Palatine Hill.

A hand and foot sculpture and a chariot in the Capitoline Museums.

Pantheon.  A temple built for all God's over two thousand years ago and is still the world's largest unreinforced concrete dome.

Inside the Pantheon.
Our walk to the Vatican.
A Swiss Guard protecting the Pope.
Went to see the Pope.

The deceased Popes that line the Vatican.

Inside St. Peter's Basilica at the Vatican.
The Sistine Chapel painted by Michelangelo in the early 1500's.
Michelangelo's self portrait.

The ceiling of the Sisten Chapel, nine scenes from the Book of Genisus.
The hand of God giving life to Adam.

Famous spiral staircase inside the Vatican museum.
Trevi Fountain.
Threw in a penny for good luck. I sure do look like a tourist, back pack and camera. :)
Spanish Steps.

 Zeus.

Eating dinner outside at a trattoria down the street from our hotel.

Gelato - my nightly craving. Berry yogurt was my favorite.

Hotel Nazionale  - Great hotel with a perfect location in Piazza Navona.
